London 2012
While we were watching the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Beijing some 16 days ago, Leon, his sister Tania and I talked about London's chances of matching the splendour of the opening ceremony. None of us could imagine that we could do it.
I was of the opinion then that I wouldn't be surprised if all the London 2012 opening and closing ceremonies were, were big music concerts. The British seem to celebrate and commemorate everything with a concert of some sort.
Well, my fears were kind of confirmed with last night's poor showing at the closing ceremony in Beijing. Not only were the 8 minutes of the British show nothing spectacular, but it was also mostly a music show. And though Leon and I both love hard rock, neither of us thought that it captured the spirit of the Olympics at all. We were very dissappointed and really hope that London can only improve on it in time for 2012...

So what england dosen't have the thousands of years of history like china. The british still have a great hertiage who ruled a fourth of the world, who started the industrial revoltion, who held off hitler and napoleon.London could also draw elements of irish and scotish culture. In short BRITANNIA RULES!
