The Loft Diary - Part 2

(posted by Elizma)

The builders have been getting on in the last week or so and we can see some real changes.

All the water tanks have been removed from the loft to the scaffolding so that we can still have warm water while they work. They have also removed the hip of the roof and built the wooden frame for the gable wall. This really gives us a good idea of the size of the finished room which is really exciting. It's already big and they've not even removed the roof on the back of the house where the dormer will go yet. That will make it even bigger. (Click on this image for a closer view.)

(I've pulled the next picture from the Internet just to show what a dormer looks like - not a pretty thing we know, but we will be spending much more time in our room than in our garden - especially if this summer is ANYTHING like last year!)

The whole process will obviously come with some hiccups (which is to be expected with a project of this size). The water system got some air in and we've been without hot water and heating for about a day. Luckily the plumber is on his way at this minute to come and sort it out. Seeing it's the middle of winter (and we are currently without a roof), we've borrowed Leon's parents little blow heater which we move with us from room to room. It's not too bad.

Hey! The building of Space Station Cowle is in full swing! We are excited for you guys; before you know it things will be finished, your home will look amazing again, and two little pink feet will be running (ok, crawling) through the place!
